Profile

I was born in a small farming town in southern Wisconsin. Education has always been important to our family. My father died when I was about four years old and our grandparents, the church, and wonderful teachers all helped to keep our heads above water.

I was fortunate to attend Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma and started teaching in the Lake Washington School District in 1978. I can hardly believe that this is my 35th year teaching. Working with children is a joy and a tremendous opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young people.

This is my tenth year at Lakeview and I really love it. My wife and I live in downtown Kirkland and it is wonderful to be able to walk to school and see all the Lakeview kids in the neighborhood.

We love to travel, spend time with family and friends, attend the theater and visit art museums. I love baseball (ask me about my 1933 Goudey card collection), modern art, literature, movies, exercise, and healthy eating. I guess I am really a health nut - I never had a sweet tooth as a child and most kids soon learn that I don’t eat cookies, candy, or cake. Bananas, however, are another story!

I love the positive attitudes at Lakeview and the cooperative environment that enables success for all our students. “Work hard, Be Kind, and Be Safe” is a wonderful mantra no matter what your age.
