Profile
Do, re, mi, mi, mi… Hello everyone! I’m Rachel Teigen Brackett, one of Lakeview’s K-5 music teachers. Each class at Lakeview comes to the music room twice per week to sing, dance, play instruments, listen, compose, and explore the many elements of music and the arts!
Here’s a little about me:
I grew up in South Seattle, attending schools in the Highline School District. I began taking private piano lessons at age 5 and participated in band and choir from 5th-12th grade. I also performed in many plays and musicals from elementary school through college. In 8th grade I was voted “Best Line-Dancer” in my school and in high school I was voted, “Biggest Chatterbox” in the senior poll.
I have always loved learning! I received my Bachelor of Music Education Degree with a minor in Theatre from Pacific Lutheran University in 2002 and have taught K-6 Music and Multi-Arts ever since. I’ve taught at Spanaway Elementary in South Tacoma, Olympic View Elementary in Seattle, Smith and Mead Elementaries in LWSD, and this is my 8th year at Lakeview (and I couldn’t be more thrilled)! I completed my Master’s in Education from Lesley University, specializing in “Creative Arts and Learning” in 2005 and was awarded my National Board Certification in Early and Middle Childhood Music in 2009. I also teach the course, “General Music Methods” for undergraduate education majors at Northwest University.
We welcomed baby Rosalind into our family, and are loving life with her and our dog Buster in Seattle.
Lastly, my favorite quote is, “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm” -Ralph Waldo Emerson, and I aim to live this and encourage our students to live this every day!
